Meet our very first in-house card game, AtaMatch! If you’ve been around kids lately, it might look familiar - especially the conspicuous round cards.

AtaMatch is lightning-fast fun, based on the existing hit card game that’s skyrocketed in popularity worldwide since its introduction in 2009. It’s an easy, simple game, suitable for ages six and up, and the goal is to be the first to identify a matching symbol between two cards.

So how did we end up doing it? We wanted to make something fun (but still challenging!) for our Ataccamers, something that they could play during breaks, with their kids, with clients, on vacation…Our employer branding team wanted something easy to learn, fast-paced, and versatile, something you could play with just a couple of people or with an entire group, something with tons of replay value - a card game was a no-brainer. There was just one small detail left: What will the symbols be?

We decided to crowdfund the brainstorming and sent out a public call in our general Slack channel: Which emojis represent Ataccama best? People seemed to have strong opinions on the subject, seeing as the post broke the emoji limit in our Slack for the very first time :) Ataccamers still continued posting emojis in comments long after the limit was reached, so apparently we were on to something!

After choosing the final emojis and printing out a few versions, we were finally happy with the end result. We launched the game as a belated New Year’s present for our colleagues and clients, and we immediately started getting some great reactions! And here's how it looks in action:

AtaMatch is a versatile card game that can be played in multiple modes. Each mode has its own set of rules, which can add to the excitement and challenge of the game.

  1. Tech Stack: In this mode, players stack their cards on top of the center card, with the matching symbol facing up. When a player identifies the matching symbol, they place their card on top of the center card, covering the symbol. The next player must then identify the matching symbol on their card and stack it on top of the first player's card. The game continues in this way until one player is left with all the cards, and they win the game.

  2. Wasn't Me: In this mode, players pass their card to the player on their left when they identify the matching symbol. The game continues in this way until all the cards are with one player, who wins the game.

  3. The Well: In this mode, the first player to identify the matching symbol places their card face down in the center. The remaining players then place their cards on top of the center card until all cards have been placed. The player who places the last card gets to keep the entire pile, and the game continues until all cards have been played.
